Albertha Van Roekel, 95, of Sioux Center, Iowa and formerly of Colton died Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

Graveside service will be at 9:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Colton Cemetery, Colton, SD.   Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Community Reformed Church, Sioux Falls.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the church.

Albertha was born January 5, 1923 at Holland, Minnesota to parents, Teunis and Lutje (Vande Pol) Zeilstra.  She moved with her family to the Worthing, South Dakota area where she attended grade school.  She married John Van Roekel March 3, 1945 in Belton, Texas, where John was stationed in the Army.  After John’s service they moved to a farm near Lester, Iowa in 1948.  Then in 1965 they moved to a farm near Colton.  John died December 25, 1973.

In 1974 Albertha began working at Terrace Manor in Dell Rapids until her retirement. In 2009 she moved to a care center in Sioux Center, Iowa.  She enjoyed being with people and especially her grandchildren doing puzzles, reading and playing cards.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, James (Karen) Van Roekel, Dakota Dunes, SD; Thomas (Rhonda) Van Roekel, Sioux Falls; Anita (Walt) Swier, Marshall, MO; Larry (Melodi) Van Roekel, Nerstrand, MN; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; her sister, Joann (Wilbur) DeJong, brothers, John Zeilstra and Wilbur (Tillie) Zeilstra; sister in law, Hermina Van Roekel; brother in law, Gerrit Van Engelenhoven.  She was preceded by her parents, her husband John, infant brother, Luther, sister, Jennie Engelenhoven, sister in law, Elizabeth Zeilstra, in laws, Joe & Margret Van Roekel, Bill & Minnie Klarenbeek, Tony & Winnie Van Roekel, Jake & Jossie Van Roekel, Cornelius Van Roekel, and Willie & Albertha Van Roekel.
