William Siemonsma

December 22, 1941 — October 31, 2007

William “Willie” Siemonsma, 65, of Lyons died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at his home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, November 5, 2007 St. George Catholic Church, Hartford. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Sunday with a Wake Service at 7:00 pm at the church.

William was born December 22, 1941 at Hartford, South Dakota to parents Elmer and Florence (Honrath) Siemonsma. He grew up near Hartford and attended school in Lyons. He entered the United States Army on February 17, 1960 and served until his discharge on February 8, 1963.

Willie worked for Leroy Benson, was employed by Flynn Advertising, C & R Transfer, and then operated Willie’s Construction for 5 years. He then was maintenance manager at the Downtown Holiday Inn, before managing Speedy Lube in Sioux Falls. He also helped install Speedy Lubes around the United States. In 1985 he opened Lube It Center in Sioux Falls. Also in 1981 he started the Rollaway Company in Lyons and sold the business in 1999.

Willie married Marilyn Phillips September 19, 1964 at Wessington, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls for a year before moving to Lyons in 1965.

Willie was a member of the St. George Catholic Church, Renner American Legion, retired member of the Lyons Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Minnehaha County Planning and Zoning Committee for seven years.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Marilyn, Lyons; his children, Jan (Scott) Matson, Volga; Paul (Heather) Siemonsma, Lyons; Debra (Craig) Faber, Mt. Lake, MN; Earl (Fiancée, Nicole Benson) Siemonsma, Lyons; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Andrew, Brandon, Jae, Jon, and Joey; eight brothers, John (Joann) Siemonsma, Decatur, NE; Charles (Natalie) Siemonsma, Jerry (Marilyn) Siemonsma, and James (Marcene) Siemonsma, all of Hartford; Steve (Linda) Siemonsma, Tea; Vincent (Diane) Siemonsma, Humboldt; Donald (Vicki) Siemonsma, Sioux Falls; Patrick Siemonsma, Humboldt; five sisters, Mary (Al) Tenneson, Sioux Falls; Jean (Walter Jr.) Baustain, Luverne, MN; Bernice (Harry) Blomgren, Beaver Creek, MN; Theresa (Robert) Hay, Sioux Falls; Joan (Randy) Comer, Indianapolis, IN; a sister in law, Kay Siemonsma, Keystone, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Florence Siemonsma and a brother, Robert Siemonsma.
