Hazel Swenson

Hazel Swenson, 87, of Renner formerly of Corson died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Swedona Covenant Church rural Brandon. Burial will be in the Swedona Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Hazel was born August 10, 1920 near Baltic to parents George and Sophie (Nyhus) Oien. She attended country school near Baltic. Hazel married Alvin Swenson January 17, 1945 in Sioux Falls. They moved to the Garretson-Corson area where they lived on a farm until moving to Corson in 1957. She worked for many years at the Corson Café and later at Lamberts Building Center. Alvin died December 21, 1973.

She was a member of the Swedona Covenant Church and the ladies aid.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Ordell Swenson and his wife Viola, Sioux Falls; Harold Swenson, Renner; seven grandchildren, Sharon, Connie, Gene, Darla, Karen, Glen and Donald; fifteen great grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, Kyle, Jeremiah, Amanda, Brianna, Angela, Jenifer, Kyle, Cody, Jesse, Kaylee, Cole, Tabor and Ashton; and six great great grandchildren, Whitney, Josie, Brendon, Hailey, Casey, and Kayleah, a special niece and nephew, Carolyn Guenther and Gerald Crowell and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, a daughter, Rosalie Peterson, a sister, Minda, an infant brother and her parents.
