Palma O. Isakson

February 5, 1915 — May 23, 2009

Palma O. Isakson, 94, Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Roseni Lutheran Cemetery.

Palma Olivia Erickson was born February 5, 1915 in rural Beresford to parents Andrew and Anna (Stone) Erickson. Palma attended Brule Country School and graduated from Beresford High School. She worked in Sioux City and later attended Springfield Normal College, graduating with a degree in teaching. She taught school for many years in rural Beresford.

She married Carl (Oscar) Isakson August 5, 1944 at Roseni Lutheran Church in rural Beresford. The couple then made their home in Hollister, California where Oscar was stationed in the Navy. In September 1945 the couple resumed farming south Beresford. In 1951 they bought a farm south of Colton, South Dakota and continued to farming until 1981 when they moved to Colton.

Palma was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Colton and a member of the Ladies Aid. She served as a deacon on the church council and served on many boards and committees. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, quilting and volunteer work in and around the Colton community. Following their retirement, Palma and Oscar enjoyed trips throughout the United States and Europe.

Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Clayton Isakson and his wife Dee, Sioux Falls; Douglas Isakson, Sioux Falls; two daughters, Pat Schumacher and her husband Ron, Sioux Falls; Cynthia Wheeler and her husband Dennis, Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Victoria and Brian, Lincoln, Nebraska; Ben Belinda Schumacher, Sioux Falls; and Derek Noehren, Omaha, Nebraska; a great granddaughter, Timoree Dodd; a sister LaVonne Anderson, Denver, Colorado: and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar in 2005, her parents, three brothers, Palmer, Rockley, and Cameron Erickson and a sister Mildred Erickson.

Memorials may be directed to the Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford.
