Richard L. Dunn, 79, of Dell Rapids passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 at Sanford USD Medical Center.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with the family present at 5:00PM and the funeral service at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will follow at a later date in Sunset Memorial Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Richard was born September 29, 1928 in rural Sabina, Ohio to Robert L. and Mary (Krebs) Dunn. He graduated from Wayne High School in New Hope, Ohio. Richard served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in 1950. He married Pearl Posey in 1949 at Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Richard retired after 30 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service in 1983 as Supervisor of Mail Processing. They moved to Arizona in April of 1990. His wife, Pearl passed away in October of 1990.
On December 19, 1994 he married Helen Anderson at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler, Arizona. They lived in Arizona until 2003 when they moved to South Dakota.
Richard was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, American Legion and Elks. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing and family. He will be remembered as a kind, caring, patient and loving man.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Helen Anderson-Dunn, Dell Rapids; brother, Donald (Shirley) Dunn, Washington Court House, Ohio; sister, Helen Gabelman, Washington Court House, Ohio; cousin, Juanita McKenzie, South Solon, Ohio; brother-in-law, Arnold (Doris) Brown, Brookings, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Norma Johnson, Baltic, South Dakota; step children, Linda (Gary) Boyum, Tyler, Texas; Barry Anderson, Tacoma, Washington; Phyllis (Vincent) Schaefer, Wentworth, South Dakota; Patricia (Gene) Bertch, Gillette, Wyoming; Clifford (Connie) Anderson, Graham, Washington; fourteen step grandchildren; twenty-one step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pearl; brother, Harold and sister, Jane Ann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Befrienders at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids.
