Harvey Severson, 87, of Madison formerly of Colton died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, February 11, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chester. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, rural Chester. Visitation with the family present will be from 1-3:00 pm Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
Harvey was born August 4, 1920 on the family farm near Colton to parents Fred and Alma (Henjum) Severson. He received his education in the Colton area. Harvey married Mildred Hass June 24, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chester. After their marriage they farmed in the Chester-Colton area. before retiring into Madison. In 1999 Harvey moved to the Colton Assisted Living Center. In 2007 Harvey entered the Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison.
Harvey was baptized August 26, 1920 and confirmed at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, rural Colton. He was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chester, where he served on the church council. He also served on the township board.
Grateful for having shared his life are a brother, Dennis Severson and his wife Dorothy, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Joyce Farr, Colton; Betty Hendon and her husband Oather, Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters in law, Thelma Severson, Madison; Merla Severson, Sioux Falls; a brother in law, Bill Hass, Flandreau; and many nieces and nephews.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, four brothers, Arleen, Ronald, Norman and Lowell and a sister Carnie Ordal.
