Hermina G. Berghorst

Hermina G. (VanHolland) Berghorst, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Dells Area Health Center.

Hermina was born December 10, 1923 to Aart and Hermina (VanGalen) VanHolland in Rock Valley, IA. She attended Rock Valley Public School and later worked for Dykstra Hatchery candling eggs.

She married Henry Berghorst on February 28, 1945 in Rock Rapids, IA. They owned a dairy farm in Downey, CA. Then returned to South Dakota and continued farming until they retired in 1981. Henry passed away March 12, 1992.

Hermina will be remembered most for the loving care she bestowed on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings and time spent together.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Janice Siemonsma, Dell Rapids; Harlan (Phyllis) Berghorst, Broken Bow, NE; Ardith Faye (Steve) Sandstede, Dell Rapids; and Deanne (Carl) Kracht, Baltic; eleven grandchildren; Michelle (Michael) Eggers, Jon (Lisa) Siemonsma, Rahn (Jessica) Siemonsma, Anthony (Kendra) Siemonsma, Julie (Andrew) Johnson, Alicia Gottschalk, Jeff (Lisa) Berghorst, Josh (Christy) Berghorst, Christine (Craig) Lauritzen, Joseph and Jared Kracht. Also twenty-two great grandchildren; a brother, Moss VanHolland, Chino, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Roanld, grandson, Nicholas, four sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will begin Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 5:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. The family will be present from 6-8:00PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Renner Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM.
