Dorothy Johnson, age 93, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Garretson and Brandon, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. A memorial visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Marie Magnussen was born October 5, 1916, in International Falls, Minnesota, to Peter and Beda Magnussen. She grew up on Rainy Lake in International Falls. She was married to Leonard E. Johnson on December 5, 1937. They farmed near Garretson for 33 years. In 1970, Dorothy moved to Brandon, where she lived until 2003. At that time she entered Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home in Sioux Falls.
Dorothy had a full life, raising her 8 children. She worked hard on the farm, raising chickens, cooking, cleaning and doing laundry. She loved playing cards, dice and cooking for her children and grandchildren.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Verne (Charlotte) Johnson, Brandon, Pete Johnson, Garretson, Carole Heesch, Garretson, Marianna Bauer, Maple Grove, MN, Mark (Francine) Johnson, Phoenix, AZ, Linda Johnson, Waterloo, IL, Kay (Dennis) Ringgenberg, South Sioux City, NE, and Fred Johnson, Sioux Falls; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Peter (Millie) Magnussen, Rudy (Mary) Magnussen, and John (Terri) Magnussen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marie; a brother, Albert, and a granddaughter, Lana Johnson.
