Morris Edwin Nelson

January 23, 1925 — February 13, 2009

Morris E. Nelson Jr., 84, of Sioux Falls passed away peacefully Friday, February 13, 2009 at Dougherty Hospice House.

Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at St. John American Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Burial with military honors will be at Bethania Cemetery, rural Trent. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Monday, at the church with family present from 5:30 to7:30 PM.

Morris was born January 23, 1925 at Trent to parents Morris and Leonora (Anderson) Nelson. He was raised and received is education in Trent, graduating from Trent High School in 1943. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the South Pacific aboard submarines during World War II. He returned to South Dakota after his honorable discharge.

Morris married Anna Mehlum February 14, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He graduated from SDSU with an Associate Degree in Printing and Journalism. He was employed at the Redfield Press, Brookings Register, Argus Leader and Brown and Saenger. He later sold printing equipment and supplies until retirement at age 60.

Mory was an avid athlete all of his life. He especially enjoyed fast pitch softball, bowling and golf. He was active as a youth leader when his boys were growing up and in many civic organizations. He was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Anna, Sioux Falls; sons, Jeffrey (Delight Hansen) Dell Rapids, Drew and his daughter Abigayl, Sioux Falls; great grandchildren, Taylor and Nicholas Hansen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mory was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mildred, and three brothers, Lowell, Orlando, and Stanley.

Mory requested memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls VFW Military Honor Guard or Bethania Cemetery Fund.
