Margaret Isabella Tidemann

February 14, 1922 — December 13, 2008

Margaret I. Tidemann, 86, of Dell Rapids formerly of Baltic died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Sanford Hospice Cottage.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery, rural Crooks. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Margaret Isabella Johnson, daughter of Henry and Mable Johnson was born February 14, 1922, in Hazelton, North Dakota. She grew up in the Taunton, Slayton, Marshall and Tracey, Minnesota area. She left school to help her mother care for her younger brother and sister.
She married Walter Tidemann August 12, 1940 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Walnut Grove, Minnesota where he ran a mattress factory. They then moved to Omaha, Nebraska after the outbreak of World War II and Walter worked in the bomber plant. After the war, they lived in the Baltic and Dell Rapids area. For over 30 years, she sewed doll clothes and crocheted caps and scarves for children on Native American Reservations. There was always an extra plate for a bachelor or widow at her table for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Walter died April 24, 1989.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Lou Schons, Worthington, Minnesota; her daughters, Patricia Gildemeister, Dell Rapids; Karen (Kenneth) Trottman, Spokane Valley, Washington; her sons, David (Patti) Tidemann, Moorestown, New Jersey; Michael Tidemann, Estherville, Iowa; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Alberta; brothers, Henry Jr. “Jack”, twins Richard and Robert, Kirk and James, and a sister Roberta.

Memorials may be sent to a scholarship Fund at Baltic High School.

The family of Margaret Tidemann would like to thank Kim Wells, Margaret’s granddaughter for all the help she gave Margaret during her illness.
