George Michael Schwebach

George Michael Schwebach, 82, of Dell Rapids passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Avera Dells Area Health Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

George was born Sept. 30, 1926 to parents Mike and Anna (Bricher) Schwebach at Dell Rapids. He was raised in Dell Rapids and attended St. Mary Catholic School. He served his nation in the Marine Corps during World War II and again in the Korean War.

George married Lois Bunkers August 19, 1952 at Dell Rapids. He owned George’s Men’s Wear and the Fitting Stool and was employed by the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 30 years, retiring in November of 1988. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, Commercial Club, Mensa, Dell Rapids Historical Society, St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Board, Safety Town, MADD and served as an EMT with the Dell Rapids Ambulance Service for 30 years. He received the Tradition of Caring Award in 2001.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lois, Dell Rapids; children, Grace (Rick) Hoil, Brandon, Jim (Laurie) Schwebach, West Des Moines, IA, Mark (Tami) Schwebach, Middleton, WI, Lee Ann (Larry) Freshour, Rathdrum, ID, Emily (Tim) Murphy, Dell Rapids, Joan Mears, Baltic, Carol (Carl) Thomassen, Tea; grandchildren, Jennifer, Matt, Michael, Maggie, Brady, Nathan, Rachel, Brian, Eric, Kyle, Lindsey, Chynna, Joseph, Nicole, Justin, Evan, Tori, Connor, Brielle, Liam; great-grandchild, Emma; sister, Monica (Eldyn) Streff, Olathe, KS; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

George was preceded in death by his sons, Vince, John and Joseph; parents; two brothers and two sisters.
