Otella "Tillie" J. Hovde

Otella “Tillie” Hovde, 93, of Dell Rapids died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 16, 2008 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic. Burial will be in the East Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation with the family present from 5-7:00:00 pm Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Otella was born December 16, 1914 to Ole and Emma (Erickson) Smemoe on the family farm near Baltic. She attended country school and continued living with her parents and helping with the farming.

Tillie was united in marriage to Ben Hovde on June 30, 1942 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church. They then moved to the Hovde farm near Dell Rapids and farmed until 1990, when they retired and moved to Dell Rapids. Ben died April 27, 1993
Otella was a member of the Lutheran Church and active in church activities, Dell Rapids Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, Extension Club, and the Sons of Norway.
Grateful for having shared her life are a daughter, Victoria Hovde, Lincoln, Vermont; a son Robert Hovde, Hamburg, Germany; a sister, Luella Carlson, Pipestone, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter, her parents, a brother, Jennings, four sisters, Evelyn Carlson, Vivian Thomas, Myrtle Smemoe, and an infant Alice Vivian.
