Althea Julette Moan

February 3, 1917 — October 25, 2008

Althea Julette Moan, 91, of Baltic died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Medilodge of Yale in Yale, Michigan.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, October 31, 2008 at Baltic Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the East Nidaros Cemetery, rural Baltic. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday with the family present from 6-8:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Althea Julette Berg was born to parents A. L. and Kate (Volz) Berg at the Berg Homestead rural Baltic on February 3, 1917. She attended Hilmoe Grade School near Baltic and graduated from Baltic High School. After high school she stayed at home to help with the farm and house work and to assist her father in the Farmers Insurance Company and working at the Berg Store.

She married Henry Moan December 30, 1939 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. After their marriage they farmed near Baltic until moving into Baltic in 1994. She also worked at Treloar’s Grocery Store in Baltic for several years. Henry died December 26, 1997.

Althea was baptized and Confirmed at Willow Creek Lutheran Church and was an active member of Baltic Lutheran Church. She loved young people and worked in the 4-H Program for nearly 30 years, volunteering at the Sioux Empire Fair and was the South Dakota State Fair Superintendent. Althea also donated much of her time working on projects in the Baltic School, such as FFA, parades, and school reunions. She was also an active member of the Baltic Senior Citizens.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons and their wives, Roger and Joann Moan, Baltic; Stanley and Linda Moan, Allenton, Michigan; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Henry Lyle who died in infancy, two brothers and six sisters.
