Alida Swier, 80, of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Sanford Health. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Good News Reformed Church, Sioux Falls. Burial will precede the service at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
Alida was born March 25, 1928 at Colton to parents Albert and Grace (Gelderman) Meyerink. She grew up in the Colton area and graduated from Colton High School in 1946. She then worked for North Western Bell in Sioux Falls. Alida married William Swier January 2, 1948 in Colton. After their marriage they farmed near Colton until moving to Orange City, Iowa. In 1971 they returned to the Colton and farmed until moving to Sioux Falls in 1986. She moved to the Inn on Westport in 2000. William “Will” died on March 31, 2005.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Sherry (Charlie) Johnson, Greeley, CO; Lin (Mert) Van Hofwegen, Sioux Falls; Nanci (Kendall) Van Peursem, Milbank, SD; seven grandchildren, Kim Dodson, Marty Faber, Mike Van Hofwegen, Kristen Stolz, Jenna Hoff, Jessica Van Peursem, and Grant Van Peursem; seven great grandchildren, Mikaela Dodson, Amanda Dodson, Kendra Dodson, Cassie Van Hofwegen, Emily Van Hofwegen, Dominic Van Hofwegen, and Kaleb Stolz; two sisters, Fannie Swier and Ann Vander Plaats, both of Colton; and a sister in law, Mary Meyerink, Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by a son Steven William, a brother, John, and a sister, Marie Hoek.
