Mary Fossum, 94, Sioux Falls formerly of the Lyons area died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Home.
Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2008 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will precede the Memorial service at West Nidaros Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Mary was born January 11, 1914 in Sioux Falls to parents Johan and Maria (Ellefson) Warwick. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm in the Colton vicinity. She began her education in several rural schools. The family moved to a farm near Lyons, where she continued her education and graduated from Lyons High School in 1931.
Mary married Orlando Fossum December 7, 1935 in Colton. They farmed in the Lyons area, except for one year near Madison. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1977.
She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She was a member of the West Nidaros Lutheran Church, the Women’s Group and Bible Study.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Orlando, Sioux Falls; a daughter, Sharon Garton and her husband Gary, Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Loren Fossum and his wife Karen, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Emily Fossum, Sioux Falls; Neil Fossum, Columbia, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by the parents, and two sisters, Jennie Fossum in 1988 and Esther Anderson in 2007.
