Shirley Mae (Voss) Devick, 89, formerly of Sioux Falls, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Committal services will be at 9:00 am Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Colton, South Dakota. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Chapel in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm Monday with the family present from 5 to 7:00 pm at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Baltic.
Shirley was born December 23, 1918, on a farm near Trent, South Dakota, the youngest child of George and Effie Voss. She graduated from Trent High School in l936. She trained as a beautician in Omaha, Nebraska and returned to South Dakota where she worked in beauty shops in Dell Rapids, Colton and Kadoka.
Shirley married Perry Devick on August 29, l941, in Colton, South Dakota. During WWII the Devicks lived in Sioux Falls, Madison, Wisconsin, and Mascoutah, Illinois. They returned to Sioux Falls where Perry was in the furniture business and Shirley and Perry raised their three children. They were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. For ten years they owned and operated Suburban Motel. In their retirement years Shirley and Perry enjoyed their cottage at Lake Poinsett and wintered in Pharr, Texas. Perry died January 31, 1998. Shirley lived in Wausau, Wisconsin the past three and a half years.
Shirley loved fishing and needle work...good bread with butter...growing flowers and food...and watching birds...she made perfect lefsa and was always kind. She was loved and will be missed by her friends and family.
Survivors include Mickey and Tim Schueler, Wausau, Wisconsin; Lennie Devick and Bill Coons, Belize, Central America; and Mark and Carolyn Devick, Nokomis, Florida; five grandchildren and five great-grandsons.
