Danford “Dan” Nelson, 60, of Renner died Monday, April 21, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the St. Olaf Cemetery, Baltic. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Danford was born June 1, 1947 in Sioux Falls to parents Roy J. and Mabel J. (Aasen) Nelson. He grew up in Baltic and graduated from Baltic High School in 1965. He entered the United States Army in 1965 and served during Vietnam and was discharged in 1969.
Dan married Sandra Bailey on September 13, 1969 at Renner. They moved to Tacoma, Washington and returned in 1972. He worked for Purolator, Hander Plumbing and Heating and then as a plumber for the Veterans Administration in Sioux Falls until December of 2007 when ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the Renner American Legion and enjoyed playing poker with his friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son and his wife, Devon and Jayme Nelson, Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Emma and Ava Nelson; his sister and her husband, Mary and Curtis Anderson, Sioux Falls; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law, Robert Vander Plaats.
