Marvin A. Sundal, age 94, of Baltic, died on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Sanford Hospice in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 24, 2008 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Memorials may be directed to West Nidaros Lutheran Church.
Marvin was born on July 9, 1913 to R.T. and Laura (Kjeldson) Sundal on the family farm near Baltic. He grew up on the farm and attended the Willow Creek County School. Following his father’s death, Marvin took over the family farm at the age of 14 and cared for his mother. On June 11, 1962, Marvin married Bonnie Anderson. The couple continued living on the Sundal Farm.
Marvin was a member of West Nidaros Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon, and a past member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church. He served on the boards of the Baltic Telecom and Baltic Lumberyard. During his single years, Marvin traveled extensively and enjoyed reminiscing about his travels. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. Marvin was a true farmer and an avid tractor and machinery enthusiast.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Bonnie, Baltic; children: Todd (Dana) Sundal, Baltic, Scott (Becca) Sundal, Atlanta, GA, Jeff (Pam) Anderson, Chicago, IL, Becky (Bruce) Kuemper, Sioux Falls, Tami (Todd) Milliken, Casper, WY and Sue (Leonard) Lampl, Southport, NC; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russel “Bud” (Arla) Sundal, Colton. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a grandson.
