Jennie M. Swartz

Jennie M. Swartz, 86, of Baltic, SD passed away August 2, 2008 in Dell Rapids. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday beginning at 2:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and memory sharing at 7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Baltic.

Jennie was born March 8, 1922 to parents Robert and Opal (Stewart) Lind in Madison, SD. She received her education in Madison and Canton. She received her teaching certificate from General Beadle Teachers College. Jennie taught school in Humboldt, SD from September of 1943 to June of 1944. She served on active duty with the US Navy from September of 1944 to March of 1946 working at the Naval Post Office.

Jennie married Dale R. Swartz May 11, 1946 at Madison, SD. They moved to a farm near Baltic in 1955. Dale passed away July 5, 1979. Jennie worked as Postmaster at the Baltic Post Office from September of 1965 to March of 1984, retiring to her farm and gardening. She moved to Terrace Manor Nursing Home in May of 2007.

Jennie was a longtime member of East Nidaros Lutheran Church, ladies aid and quilting club. Jennie was an active member of Campfire Girls for over 70 years. She achieved Master Gardener honors from the county.

Grateful for having shared her life are four sons, John and Pat, Pierre, SD; James and Maureen, Menlo Park, CA; Gregory; Douglas and Judy, Baltic, SD; nine grandchildren, Michael; Ryan; Jeffrey; Andy; Alan; Jamie; Jenna; Lauren and Scott Swartz; five great-grandchildren, Cooper; Camden; Caiyah; Jonah and Jackson Swartz.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son, David Charles; brothers, Robert; Vern and Kenneth.
