Grant O. Larson

May 7, 1920 — March 31, 2008

Grant Odean Larson, age 87, Dell Rapids, SD, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Dells Area Health Center after a five week illness.

He was born May 7, 1920 at rural Colton to parents Lewis and Tilda (Tveidt) Larson and was baptized and confirmed at the 1st Lutheran Church of Colton. He attended Rosehill Country School and graduated from Colton High School in 1938. For short periods of time he attended Augustana College, worked for his uncle, Carl Tveidt, at the Bogue store and then started farming near Baltic with his father and later on with his son, Wayne. He married Olga Gunderson on November 23, 1945 at the West Nidaros Lutheran Church. They lived on their farm at rural Baltic for 57 years and then moved to their home in Dell Rapids in December of 2002. He served on several church and community boards including the Baltic Lumber Company and the Baltic Telephone Company. He enjoyed working on the farm, fixing machinery and using his Minneapolis Moline tractors. Grant had a beautiful solo voice and sang for hundreds of weddings, funerals, and programs through the years as well as in the church choir.

Grateful for sharing his life are his three children: Wayne (Linda) Larson, Crooks, Merrill (Jane) Larson, Sioux Falls, and Rebecca (James) Logue of Elkhorn, NE.; 9 grandchildren: Darin (Connie) Larson, Ryan (Shelly) Larson, Louisa (Jade) Kvale all of Baltic, Randy (Julie) Larson of Dell Rapids, Jason (Earlene) Larson, Brandon, Erin (Nick) Bradley, Elkhorn, NE., Jed (Jessica) Logue, Statesville, N. Carolina, Amber and Joseph Logue, Elkhorn NE.; 7 great grandchildren: Madeline and Meredith Larson, Baltic, Grant Larson, Dell Rapids, J.T. and Nicholas Larson, Brandon and Juliene and Jocelyn Logue, Statesville, N. Carolina; two sisters, LaVonne Larson, Dell Rapids and Irene (Ken) Fladmark, Selinsgrove, PA. ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers, Lester, Dwayne and W. Marvin (Shirley) Larson, and three half sisters, Ethel (Kenneth) Baumberger, Laura (Emerald) Achen and Viola (Eddie) Grinde, (Melvin) Hatlestad.

Funeral services will be held at the West Nidaros Lutheran Church, Crooks, on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 P.M. with burial at the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic, with family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
