Dorothy M. Nytroe, 89, of Crooks died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic with the family present from 7-8:00 PM.
Dorothy was born December 2, 1917 in Sioux Falls to Roy and Anne (Jones) Nelson. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. She married Arnold C. Nytroe October 2, 1936 at Canton, South Dakota. They lived near Crooks for a short time before moving into Crooks. Dorothy worked as a nurse’s aid at McKennan Hospital, several nursing homes and as a housekeeper at various motels. Arnold died April 26, 2006.
She was a long time member of the West Nidaros Lutheran Church and ladies aid. She enjoyed her flower garden, bird watching and travel all over the United States with her husband.
Grateful for having shared her life are three sons, Jerry Nytroe and his wife Mary, Sioux Falls; Marvin Nytroe and his wife Mary, Brandon; Norman Nytroe, Alexandria, Minnesota; a daughter in law, Judy Nytroe, Hartford; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Prescott, Sioux Falls; Maxine Eggeman, Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Richard, a daughter in law, LuAnn Nytroe, three sisters and three brothers.
