Walter R. Borgen, 96, of Brandon died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Palisade Manor in Garretson.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon. Burial will be in the Splitrock Lutheran Cemetery, rural Brandon. Visitation with the family present will be from 2-4:00 pm Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Walter was born on December 18, 1911 at Crooks to parents John and Inbeborg (Sorken) Borgen. He attended Crooks Grade School and went to high school in Trent and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
Walter married Edith Finch on December 17, 1938 in Beresford. They lived and farmed the Borgen Homestead east of Crooks until 1944, when they moved into Crooks. He owned and operated Borgen Repair and Manufacturing and also built trailers for “Nationwide”. In 1958 they moved to Brandon and he worked for Malloy Electric and started in the electrical business. In 1969 they moved to Loveland, Colorado, where he worked as an electrical inspector for the State of Colorado. In 1976 they moved back to South Dakota to Valley Springs, where he continued in the electrical business until he retired. They moved to Brandon in June of 2003. Walt had a love for wood and made many lovely things for family and friends. Walter was a member of the Brandon Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Edith, Brandon; two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Paul Thoreson, Brandon; Jeanette and Gerry Moore, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
