Gertie Hymans, 91, of Colton died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Madison.
Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 pm Monday, November 19, 2007 at First Reformed Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 4:00 pm at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
Gertie was born to parents Arie and Pieternell (Nortier) Boon on January 27, 1916 at Doon, Iowa. She grew up near Doon and attended country school near there. Gertie married Henry Hymans February 15, 1940 at Doon, Iowa. They lived in Doon for three years before moving to Colton-Montrose area, where they farmed until moving into Colton in 1978. Henry died February 8, 1984. Gertie lived in her own home until moving into the Colton Assisted Living in 2001 and then in 2003 to the Golden Living Center in Madison.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, three sons and their wives, James (Jim) and Ellen Hymans, Dell Rapids; Arvin and Mary Hymans, Lake Norden; Harold and Cathy Hymans, Canton; four daughters, Priscilla Weeldreyer and her husband Jerald, Parker; Patricia Froelich and her husband Harlan, Sioux Falls; Dianne Hakeman and her husband, Keith, Rapid City; Pamela Duggan, Sioux Falls; 22 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren;a sister in law, Martha Boon, Rock Rapids, Iowa and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, son, Lyle, son in law, Robert Duggan, two brothers, Arie and Isaac, two sisters, Martina Busser and Johanna De Weerd.
