Evelyn D. Brown

Evelyn D. Brown, 87, of Dell Rapids died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Terrace Manor in Dell Rapids.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 pm Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Evelyn was born April 17, 1920 on a farm near Lake Crystal, Minnesota to parents Charles and Florence (Norman) Wiggins. She grew up and received her education in the area, graduating from Lake Crystal High School in 1938. Evelyn expanded her education by attending Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota.

Evelyn married Wayne D. Herreid at Lake Crystal, Minnesota on May 23, 1943. This union was blessed with three children, Judy, Bruce, and Linda. Wayne died November 22, 1964. On May 6, 1966, Evelyn married Gerhard J. “Gay” Brown of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He had five children, Galen, Kelly, Lois, Charles, and Larry. Gay died January 18, 2003.

Evelyn was employed for many years as a secretary with civil service, E.I. DuPont De Nemours, Mark Twain School, and Terrace Manor Nursing Home until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, a lifetime member and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, member of El Riad Shrine Auxiliary and Terrace Manor Nursing Home Auxiliary.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Galen Brown and special friend, Souane, St. Paul, Minnesota; Judy and her husband, Marty Skar, Dayton, Minnesota; Kelly Brown and his wife, Lois, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lois and her husband, Don Christenson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Charles Brown and his wife Paula, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Linda and her husband, Alan Ljunggren, Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Larry Brown, Los Angeles, California; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Wiggins and his wife, Ruby, Belleview, Washington; many nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; son, Bruce Herreid; two sisters; and three brothers.
