Marvin Gene Swier

July 12, 1934 — December 13, 2007

Marvin G. Swier, 73 of Hartford formerly of Colton died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at his home.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 15, 2007 at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, rural Colton. Burial will be in the St. Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 pm Friday at the Christian Reformed Church in Colton.



Marvin Gene Swier was born July 12, 1934 near Hartford to parents William and Gertrude (Schut) Swier. He grew up in the Colton-Hartford area and attended the Lawndale Country School District #83. He entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Marv married Phyllis Fods January 15, 1955 in Colton. They lived in Colton until moving to Hartford in 1991. Marv was a meat cutter at John Morrel and Company until his retirement in 1989. Marv was a member of the Hartford American Legion and enjoyed spending time with his family snow skiing and golfing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Phyllis, Hartford; his children and their spouses, Deborah and Ron DeKam, Pipestone, Minnesota; Dale and Pam Swier, Hartford; Duane and Kelli Swier, Las Vegas, Nevada; Dawn and Randy Hillman, Sioux Falls; Denise and Brian Rajala, Waukesha, Wisconsin; Donna and Dave Hulstein, Edgerton, Minnesota; Diane and John Hanick, Granby, Colorado; sixteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Leon (Nancy) Swier, Sioux Falls; Floyd (Eileen) Swier, Ramona; a sister Delores (Frank) Reurink, Mesa, Arizona and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude, his step mother Ruth, two grandchildren, a sister Joyce Eggen, and two brothers Larry and James.
