Elroy M. Tidemann, 91, of Baltic died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, July 13, 2009 at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Baltic.
Elroy Milton Tidemann was born December 22, 1917 on the family farm near Baltic. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. In 1941 he entered the United States Army and served during World War II until his discharge in 1945. He then attended the Veterans Agricultural Program. Years later he received at Honorary High School Diploma from Baltic High School.
Elroy married Dorothy Peterson April 27, 1947 in Sioux Falls. They continued to live on the farm where he was engaged in farming. He also worked at the Minnehaha County Detention Center for 20 years.
Elroy was a member of Baltic Lutheran Church, the Baltic American Legion, Baltic Senior Citizens and served on the board of Pioneer Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Larry (Gail) Tidemann, Brookings; Duane Tidemann, Baltic; Fred (Michelle) Tidemann, Rosendale, WI; two daughters, Mary Ann Sittig, Sioux Falls; Melva Lee Hilmoe, Baltic; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on November 16, 2004.
