Mary C. Page, 92, of Sioux Falls and formerly from Dell Rapids passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, July 31, 2009 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community Chapel in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.
Mary was born in Granville, Iowa in 1916, the seventh of thirteen children born to Joseph and Magdalena (Roeder) Nemmers. She and her family moved to Dell Rapids, SD in 1923. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Dell Rapids in 1934. After graduation, she attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, SD. From 1935 to 1941 she taught at Noyes School, a one room school in Moody County.
Mary married John E. Page in June of 1941 and moved to Sioux Falls. She worked at J.C. Penney until the birth of their first child, Edward in 1944. Their second son, Daniel was born in 1957.
John and Mary were founding members of St Mary Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, where she was extremely active in the Altar Society, serving in various leadership positions throughout the years. Mary was also active in the Catholic Daughters of America and held many leadership positions within the organization.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1985; brothers, Roman, Aloysius, Rev. Charles, John, Rev. Leonard, Urban and Arnold Nemmers; sister, Florence Ginsbach; nephew, Donald Nemmers; and daughter-in-law, Ann Page.
Mary is survived by two sons, Edward Page, Youngstown, FL and Daniel (Laura) Page, Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Leslie (Troy) Brown, Youngstown, FL, Melissa (Joshua) Crow, Orlando, FL, Marianne, Rebecca, Andrew and Steven Page, all of Littleton, CO; great-granddaughters, Megan and Kelsey Brown, Youngstown, FL and Elizabeth Crow, Orlando, FL; brother, Quintin Nemmers, Dell Rapids; sisters, Sister M. Gertrude Nemmers, Aberdeen, Sister M. Helen Nemmers, Sioux Falls and Charlotte (Bob) Hinricher, Dell Rapids; sister-in-law, Fern Nemmers as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
