Evelyn M Silvernagel

Evelyn Silvernagel, 79, of Garretson formerly of Belle Fourche died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM MDT Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Kline Funeral Chapel, Bell Fourche. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Local arrangements are with the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Evelyn was born to parents David and Anna (Aman) Stoppel on August 15, 1928 in Nisland, South Dakota. She attended country school, graduated from Nisland High School and went on to earn her teaching certificate from Black Hills Teachers College. Evelyn married Joe Silvernagel on July 26, 1947 in Belle Fourche. They had two children, Bob and Bonnie. The family farmed in the Belle Fourche area for many years until Evelyn and Joe retired from farming and moved to Nisland, where Joe worked for the Butte County Highway Department and Evelyn worked as a teacher’s assistant in the Nisland School System. Evelyn truly enjoyed her twenty years of teaching young people and had a special affection for disadvantage and special needs children. Upon retirement, Joe and Evelyn moved to Garretson to be near family. Joe passed away in 1994. Evelyn kept busy with her garden, spending lots of time with her great grandchildren, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Bonnie Knuteson, Sioux Falls, granddaughters, Kim Kringen, Madison; Kelly Brost, Spearfish; Mandy Van Wyke, Sioux Falls; step granddaughter, Kristi Scott, Lake Havasu, AZ; ten great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Davie, parents, David and Anna; son, Bob; husband, Joe; grandson, Troy, step grandson, Beau, brothers, Art and Herb; and sisters, Helen and Shirley.
