On Monday, April 28, 2008, Colleen Ramona Moe passed away at the age of 79 years with her husband, sons and daughters-in-law gathered around her bedside.
Born July 20, 1928, in Garretson, South Dakota, Colleen grew up in rural South Dakota until her graduation from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in the class of 1949. She then worked as a registered nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital where she met Bennie Moe Jr., the son of one of her patients, and some time later they married. They settled in Sioux Falls and raised four boys. During this time Colleen was a homemaker and continued her nursing career that later included the position of school nurse at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls where her sons attended. Once Bennie & Colleen became empty-nesters, she retired and moved with Bennie to Custer, South Dakota at age 55 where they made a new home and friends.
As for things she loved to do, the most important was raising and caring for an extended family, sewing, quilting and contributing to her community through numerous clubs and organizations.
Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Bennie Moe, her sons Thomas Moe and wife Cathy, of Benson, Arizona; David Moe and wife Nancy, of Denver, CO; Mike Morton and wife Laurie, of Phoenix, Arizona; Daniel Moe and wife Kelie, of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, Lana, Brooke, Allie, Harper, Kaia, Myles, Colbe, Kristin, Davis and one great grand-daughter Kiersten.
