Cheryl Nustad

Cheryl Nustad, age 70, of Garretson died on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Palisade Manor in Garretson. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Burial will precede the service at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, at East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Monday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to a charity of the donor’s choice.


Cheryl was born on August 22, 1937 in Madison, South Dakota to Mads and Mertyl (Christiansen) Westergard. Cheryl graduated from Madison High School in 1955. Following high school, she attended General Beadle State College in Madison where she earned her teaching degree. Cheryl taught in Estelline, Clark, Baltic and Garretson.


On June 10, 1967, Cheryl married Bennie Nustad, Jr. They lived in Baltic for four years and Garretson for 37 years where Cheryl taught for 8 years with the Garretson School.


Survivors include her husband, Ben of Garretson; sister-in-law, Darleen Westergard and nephews Brad Westergard and Rick Jacobsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Wendell Westergard; a sister La’May Jacobsen and two nephews.
