Sigurd Ohme

June 7, 1912 — April 6, 2008

Sigurd Ohme, 95, of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 2-4:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton. Burial will be in the Minnehaha Lutheran Cemetery, Colton.

Sigurd Ohme was born June 7, 1912 in Paulina, Iowa to parents Olai and Ellen (Stangeland) Ohme. He grew up in Argusville, ND and Hancock, MN where he attended country school. In 1928 he moved with his parents and his sister Borgny to Colton. During the depression, he worked on WPA road construction projects and provided a team of horses and a wagon. He was also a farmer. On August 27, 1944, he married Cora Mae Lura. The couple farmed in the Colton area until retirement in 1982, and then they moved to Sioux Falls. In 2003 they moved to Dow Rummel Village.

Sigurd was a member of First Lutheran Church, Colton since 1928. He served as a board member of First Lutheran Church, Colton Farmers Elevator and Bethel Lutheran Home, Madison. He was a clerk for rural school, Berdahl #89, Colton.

Sigurd was a member of Golden K. Kiwanis Club and Sons of Norway. Sigurd also won Champion Pork Producer of Minnehaha County sponsored by Farmers Hybrid Hogs of Hampton, Iowa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, Christian activities, his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Mae, Sioux Falls; his daughter, Carole, Sioux Falls; three nephews, Robert (Shirley) Kelsven, Morris (Patricia) Kelsven, Roger Nordhus, three nieces, Margie Lura (Rex) Rolfing, Marcia Lura (Vincent) Battista, Janel Nordhus (Donald) Schultz, a sister in law, Irene Lura, a brother in law, Robert Nordhus and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olai and Ellen Ohme, his sister, Borgny Ohme, a niece, Yvonne Kelsven (Ernie) Verde and two great nephews.
