Frederick Snoozy

Frederick Snoozy, age 92, went to be with Jesus on Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Colton on Sunday, November 7, 2010 with the family present from 3-5:00 PM. Remembrance Services will be held at Taopi Community Hall on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Pastor David Severtson officiating. Interment will follow at the Colton Cemetery.

Frederick was born during the great flu epidemic on March 3, 1918, in the Dell Rapids Community Hospital, to Henry and Olga (Tritten) Snoozy. Fred completed the eighth grade at Grinde School across the road from his home.

Frederick volunteered for the Army Air Force in 1942 and became an airplane mechanic. Frederick met and married Florence Hendrix in North Augusta, SC, on April 8, 1944. They moved to their farm near Colton in 1946 where they raised livestock and grain. Fred continued to farm until he was 85 years old.

Florence passed away in 1981. Fred married Verna Whipkey later that year. Fred was an active member of the Colton United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Colton Elevator Board.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Verna, and his children, Sandrau (Tom) Swier, Norfolk, NE; Debra (Richard) Ford and Floyd (Melissa) Snoozy, all of Colton. Also remaining are stepchildren, Wayne (Lin) Whipkey of Michigan; Leland (Wanda) Whipkey of Sioux Falls; Marc Whipkey of Iowa; and Patti Ann (Gary) Brashear of South Carolina. Together Fred and Verna have fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
