Dennis H. Schoer, 68, of Crooks died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, September 24, 2010 at Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will precede the memorial service at the Benton Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 PM Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the church. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Benton Lutheran Cemetery upkeep fund.
Dennis Harold Schoer was born July 30, 1942 at Revere, Minnesota to parents Harold and Iris (Brandt) Schoer. He grew up in the Garvin and Tracy, Minnesota area and graduated from Tracy High School.
Dennis married Cheryl Osborne October 28, 1962 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Tracy, MN, Council Bluffs, IA and moved to Sioux Falls in 1973, where he owned and operated Laco Transmissions, with his brother Lyle. In 1983 they moved to Crooks where Dennis owned and operated the Crooks Pub and later Universal Millwright until his retirement.
Dennis was an active member of Benton Lutheran Church and served on the cemetery board.
Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, cribbage and NASCAR which was highlighted with a trip to a race with family in 2001. Dennis was also an avid Minnesota Vikings & Twins Fan. In August his whole family took a trip to the Minnesota Twins at the new Target Field.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Cheryl, Crooks; his children, Tami (Ron) Sauers, Larchwood, Iowa; Kindra Hilt, Sioux Falls; Casey (Gretchen) Schoer, Fargo, North Dakota; his grandchildren, Aubrey (Dave) Sanderson, Matt & Zach Sauers, Elise & Jack Hilt, Cierra & Page Schoer; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Jett; two brothers, Gary (Ellie) Schoer, Currie, Minnesota; Lyle (Linda) Schoer, Hartford; three sisters, Sharon Stoppel and Lynette (Clifford) Deslauriers, both of Currie, Minnesota; Janice (Ralph) Prescher, Williams, Oregon; a brother in law, Royce (Lorna) Osborne, Springfield, Oregon; a sister in law Janice (Richard) Nordmeyer, Balaton, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Larry and his son in law, Todd Heiberger.
