Dorothy Ann Kahl Johnson, age 80, of Sherman, died on September 8, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Friday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Dorothy Ann Kahl was born December 18, 1929 to parents Walter and Louise Kahl near Rock Rapids, Iowa. She attended Country School and graduated from Rock Rapids High School. Dorothy taught at Allison #1 School for three years. She married Selmer M. Johnson of Sherman, South Dakota on May 20, 1951. She has lived in and around the Sherman and Sioux Falls areas all of her married life. She worked at Dakota Industries in Dell Rapids, Pipestone Manufacturing in Pipestone, Ravens in Sioux Falls, Dakota Industries near Tea, and Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Dorothy was also the city clerk of Sherman for 30 plus years.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Selmer; three daughters: Mable Louise (Derald) Wilcox Jr. of Brandon; Maxine Dorothy Johnson of Titusville, Florida; and Sandra Jean Aiken of Sioux Falls; four sons: Walter Cornelius (Rose) of Hancock, Iowa; Lawrence "Larry" Selmer (Mindee) of Brandon; Marvin Edward (Brenda) of Salem; and Dean Allen (Linda) of Sparta, Wisconsin; 26 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Arlen James, in July of 1961, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
