Ruth Arlene Elverson

Funeral services will begin 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 10, 2006 at The Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Ruth Arlene Odde was born to John and Minnie (Sundem) Odde on July 8, 1923 near Ellis, South Dakota. At age eight, she and her family moved to the family farm west of Dell Rapids. Ruth graduated from Lyons High School in 1941. After completing her education, Ruth worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Bollinger in Garretson.

On June 30, 1943, she married Stanley Elverson. Together they farmed east of Dell Rapids until Stanley’s death in May 1992. For many years, she was active in Farm Bureau, Pork Producers of SD, and Livestock Feeders of South Dakota. Ruth continued to farm until illness forced her retirement in the spring of 2003. She loved working on the farm and living in the country.

Ruth passed away Monday, November 6, 2006 at Custer Regional Senior Care at the age of 83.

Ruth is survived by daughters, Cynthia Tjaden, Hermosa, SD; Eileen Elverson, Sherman, SD; Shirley Even, Brookings, SD; and Ramona (Jerry) Jurgens, Hot Springs, SD; her brother, Harold (Myrt) Odde of rural Dell Rapids; SD and sister Helen Stansell of rural Dell Rapids, SD; and six grandchildren, Christine; Karen; Marc; Benjamin; Joanna; and Katherine;and three great-grandchildren, David; Jesus; and Alicia.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Stanley on May 1, 1992; her parents John and Minnie; two sisters Anne and Evelyn; and two grandchildren.
