Donald S. Whealy, 86, of Colton died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, August 30, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Burial will follow at St. Ansgar Cemetery, rural Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Don was born on September 5, 1923 to Marvin and Eva (Stewart) Whealy at the Stewart farm near Rutland, South Dakota. Don grew up in Colton and graduated from Colton High School and South Dakota State College in 1947. He enlisted in the US Navy, received his flight training, and was commissioned as a deck officer.

Don married Elaine Dybvig in 1949; they were married 61 years and raised five children. Don was manager of the Community Bank at Colton for 30 years, and was active in building his community.

Don is survived by his wife Elaine, Colton; two sons, Michael (Brenda) Whealy and James Whealy, both of Omaha, Nebraska; three daughters, Sela (David) Nagelhout of Sioux Falls, Mary (Neal Blanchard) Whealy of Wilmington, Delaware, and Elizabeth Whealy of Sioux Falls. Don was well-loved by his five children and by seven grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Will, Elizabeth, Marah, Madeline and Simon, and by two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Peter. Don also is survived by his brother, Robert, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and a sister.
