Bruce Laverne Hillman

Bruce L. Hillman, 54, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls after a 2-year fight against cancer. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. Friday, at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks, with the family present 6-8:00 P.M.

Bruce was born in Madison, SD on December 7, 1955. He grew up in Sioux Falls, attending Beadle Elementary, Emerson Elementary, Axtell Park Junior High, and Washington High Schools. He graduated from Washington High School in 1974.

Bruce married Helen White Roelfsema on October 22, 1988. They were blessed with two children, Brandon (attending SDSU) age 21, and Brooke (attending USD), age 19. Bruce worked for Sioux Falls/Miller Structures until they closed in 2001. In 2005, he opened Automotive Wholesale Center in Tea. Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching, teaching swimming at the YMCA, and attending events that his children were involved in.


Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Robert and Shirley Myers, his wife, Helen, his children, Brandon and Brooke, brothers: Randy (Dawn) Hillman, Sioux Falls, Roger (Mona) Hillman, Lake Conroe, TX, and Ken (Serena) Hillman, Tea; sisters: Barbara Myers, Sioux Falls and Doreen (Ron) Dickens, Sioux Falls, 21 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenny Hillman.
