Joshua Rueben Schmid, 21, of Garretson, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2006 near Garretson as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Monday, October 9, 2006 at the Garretson School Gymnasium in Garretson with interment in the Zion Methodist Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with the family present from 5-7:00 PM Sunday, October 8, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Joshua Rueben Schmid was born on October 31, 1984 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Joe and Marilyn (Janzen) Schmid. He was baptized at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls and at the age of 4, he moved with his family to Garretson, South Dakota.
Josh attended Garretson Elementary and Garretson High School, graduating in 2003. While in school, Josh participated in football, drama, baseball, FFA, Honor Society, Homecoming Royalty and Legion Baseball. He was confirmed and was an active member of the United Church of Garretson.
After high school, Josh attended Lake Area Tech in Watertown, South Dakota for two years in Auto Technology. He graduated with honors, having been ranked number 1 in his class of 30. Josh worked at Billion Toyota in Sioux Falls in the service department.
While not working Josh enjoyed his Friday night softball league, Sportsman Club Shooting League, antique tractor pulling, races at Huset’s, riding his motorcycles and being with family and friends. Josh was also a life-long member of the Prairie Village Historical Society where he enjoyed many good times.
Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Joe and Marilyn Schmid of Garretson; a brother, Levi, at home; grandparents: Ted and Marj Janzen of Mt. Lake, Minnesota; and Maryann Schmid, Beresford, South Dakota; aunts and uncles: Isy and Rick Larson, Lester Schmid, Scott & Lott Janzen, and Chris and Susan Janzen; cousins: Jason Schmid and his wife, Tracy; Ethan and Lucas Larson; Matt and Robin Schmid; Madysen, Susan and Stacy Schmid; Scott, Jr. and Teddy Janzen; and Jake and Duke Janzen; and his best friend and roommate, Tom Zweep.
Josh was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rueben Schmid and uncle, Earl Schmid.
