Virgil O. Austin, 86, of Colton died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Terrace Manor in Dell Rapids, under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, May 10, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in Colton. Burial will be in the Minnehaha Cemetery, rural Colton. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday at the church.
Virgil was born June 24, 1923 to parents Henry and Emma Austin at Colton. He attended country school and joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge he attended Dunwoody School in Minneapolis for air conditioning and refrigeration training. He returned to Colton and started his own business. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson.
He is survived by three sisters, Delores Austin, Dell Rapids; Darla Amundson, Dell Rapids and Ruth Rivenes, Rapid City; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Gordon, Ray, Kermit, Melvin, Harold, Robert and Eugene and three sisters, Verda Fods, Shirley Moe and Norma Austin.
