Theresa Burgers

Theresa Burgers, 86, of Sioux Falls died Thursday, January 04, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospice. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, January 8, 2006 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Theresa was born December 28, 1920 to parents George and Anna (Bethlehem) De Jong at Beaver Creek, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm west of Colton and attended country school near there. She married Albert Burgers September 7, 1939 on the Burgers family farm near Colton. She farmed with her husband in the Colton area until they moved to Sioux Falls in 1965. She then worked as a house mother at Children’s Care Hospital and School and Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls and at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. Albert died June 13, 2001.


She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking and spending time with her family. Theresa was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Colton.


Theresa died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls.


Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Jane Rentz and her husband David, Wentworth; Sharon Duggan, Sioux Falls; Ranae Snowden and her husband Steve, Murphys, California; Glenda Burgers, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a brother, Ray DeJong and his wife Joan, Dell Rapids; two sisters, Frieda Bos, Beresford; Annie Rentschler and her husband Verlyn, Egan; and many other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
