Alverda Mae Huntimer

Alverda Mae Huntimer, 79, of Dell Rapids passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007 at home surrounded by her husband and children. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1995 and pancreatic cancer on July 13, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM, a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 3:00 PM, and a Wake Service beginning at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The family will be present at 3:00 PM and 6 to 8:00 PM.

Alverda Mae was born May 5, 1928 in Dell Rapids to parents Fred and Verena (Heinemann) Anderson. She graduated From St. Mary Catholic School in 1947. In her teen years, she played piano for weddings in the “Anderson Family Band.” Alverda married Jim Huntimer on September 14, 1948. She was employed as a legal secretary by VanBuran-Vogt. In 1969 she bought Verd’s Dairy Queen which she operated for thirteen years, serving one year as South Dakota Dairy Queen President.

Alverda was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and an active member of the Catholic Daughters for sixty years. She enjoyed playing her piano, planting flowers, flying with Jim in his airplane, and spending time with family.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jim, Dell Rapids; twelve children, Linda, Albany, OR; Peggy (Ron) Smith, Lincoln, NE; Mary Kay (Bob) Fuglsby, Garretson; Lois (Dave) Lenth, Dell Rapids; Paul (Julie), Omaha, NE; Joan (Richard) Murphy, Dell Rapids; Marie (Scott) Chamley, Stanwood, WA; Michael (Becky), Wichita, KS; James (Karen), Honolulu, HI; David (Ginni), Colman; Pete (Summer Thomas), Dell Rapids; thirty grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six sisters; one brother; and many other relatives and friends.

Alverda was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy; parents Fred Anderson and Verena Anderson Schettler; and brother, Curtis Anderson.
