Phillip James Bunkers

Phillip James Bunkers, 58, of Sioux Falls died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday, August 27, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Sunday, with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Phillip James was born April 9, 1949 in Sioux Falls to parents Magnus John and Melvina (Dubbelde) Bunkers. He grew up in the Dell Rapids area and received his education at St. Mary Catholic School. Phillip joined the National Guard in Pipestone then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his discharge, he worked for Walt Herren Construction.

Phillip married Cynthia Ross December 29, 1971 in Dell Rapids. The couple moved to Colorado Springs, then back to Dell Rapids in 1973. They later relocated to Sioux Falls. He was employed at Steven Bunkers Construction Company.

Phillip loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and dog, Bandit.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Cindy, Sioux Falls; son, Corey (Angie) Bunkers, Sioux Falls; daughter, Aimee (Jerry) Warmbein, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Aimee’s children, Kelsey, Kyle, Brandon, Dominick, Jordan, Morgan, and Tyler; Corey's children, Mitchell and Kennedy; his mother, Melvina Bunkers, Dell Rapids; six brothers, Steven (Nila) Bunkers, Dell Rapids; Stan Bunkers, Sioux Falls; Paul (Karen) Bunkers, Renner; Donald (Jackie) Bunkers, Baltic; John (Dawne) Bunkers, Fairfax, MN; Jeff (Diane) Bunkers, Dell Rapids; six sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Elsinger, Dell Rapids; Shirley (Jim) Wolles, Dell Rapids; Jan (Hugh) Grogan, Sioux Falls; Sue (Whitey) Klein, Dell Rapids; Denise Myre, Dell Rapids; Ann (John) Myre, Sherman; and many other relatives and friends.

Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Magnus in 1987 and two grandsons, Alex and Joshua.
