Leroy (Jiggs) Hebberecht, son of Irene (Van Vooren) and Emil Hebberecht, was born on November 4, 1932 in Jasper, MN. He moved to Trent, SD with his family and later returned to Jasper, MN where he lived with his grandparents Alice and John Van Vooren. He graduated from Jasper High School and then served his country in the United States Air Force. During his service he was the pitcher for the USAF fast pitch softball team.
After being honorably discharged, LeRoy returned to Minnesota where he led the Iona Minnesota Boys Basketball team to the State Finals. He also created the sports publication, “SoDak Sports.” He then relocated to Sioux Falls, SD where he resided for a majority of his life. During this period LeRoy met his wife through his passion for fast pitch softball, he owned and operated several businesses, including Mr. Jiggs and Stockman’s and was a loving and proud father. He was also an avid card player, great lover of all sports, (especially the Timberwolves and Twins) and sponsored many championship softball, bowling, pool, and dart teams. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his many friends, laughing and telling stories from their “glory days.”
He is survived by his wife Lynne; son Jeff of Sioux Falls, SD; son Tim of Colman, SD; daughter Sarah Veniard of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Holly Henning and her husband Mike, their children, Lee and Makayla of Brandon, SD; sister Alyce Merrill and her husband Don; mother-in-law Thelma Severson; brother-in-law Bob Severson and his wife Julie; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Denny Hebberecht.
Visitation will be held Monday August 21, 2006 at the Miller Funeral Home (507 S. Main Ave.) beginning at 2:00pm with the family present from 6-8pm. Services will be held Tuesday August 22, 2006 at 1:30pm at First Lutheran Church (327 S. Dakota Ave).
