Charles W. Buchheim Sr. 74 of Colton died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Sioux Valley Hospital. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at St. Johns’s Lutheran Church, Chester. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 PM Tuesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton, with at Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester.
Charles was born August 5, 1932 in Sioux Falls to parents Gustav and Viola (Leisinger) Buchheim. He grew up in the Humboldt area and entered the United States Navy in 1951 and served on the USS Sullivan until his discharge in 1953. On October 29, 1955 he married Opal Schrader of Wessington Springs. He worked as an electrician for Sioux Valley Electric and in the maintenance department at Augustana College before his retirement. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing and having coffee with family and friends. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and Chester American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Opal, Colton; his children, Debra (Tom) Dissing, Colton; Charles (Beth) Buchheim Jr., Chester; Pamela (Mark) Hotchkin, Colton; Troy (Cathy) Buchheim, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Bernie (Kay) Buchheim, Sioux Falls; two sisters, JoAnn Reichardt and Sheri (Larry) Harner, both of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Blake and a niece Roxanne.
