La Vina Julia Benson
October 8, 1921 — November 20, 2006
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Friday with family present from 4-6:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
La Vina was born October 8, 1921 at Larchwood, Iowa to parents Fred and Martha (Scheibe) Polzin. She grew up in Larchwood and graduated from Larchwood High School. After her education she worked as a housekeeper for several Sioux Falls families.
La Vina married Leroy Benson October 30, 1941. They lived in Sioux Falls until 1943, when they moved to a farm near Lyons. They farmed until 1984 when they moved into Crooks. In 1999 they moved to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids. Leroy died July 22, 2004.
La Vina was a member of Benton Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her trips to Sweden with Leroy and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and reading.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Roger and his wife Teresa, Lyons; Robert, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Leila Rehfeld and her husband Keith, Hudson, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jamen Benson and his wife Jackie; Jennifer Reecy and her husband Mike; Janelle Benson; Tanika Benson; Nichols Benson; Jeff Rehfeld; and Jon Rehfeld and his wife Kandy; great-grandchildren, Kiley; Lane; Luke; Trevor; Brady; and Anna; two sisters, Geraldine Anderson, Garretson; and Marcella Foss, Sioux Falls; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers and sisters, Claude; Marvin; Kenny; Melvin; Laura; and Frances.
