Gladys A. Acheson, 89 of Colton died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006 at Terrance Manor in Dell Rapids. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, November 24, 2006 at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, rural Colton. Visitation will begin at 5:30 PM Wednesday, November 22, 2006 with the family present from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Gladys Arlouine Severson was born to Gina and Severt Severson February 20, 1917 on the Severson family homestead near Buffalo Trading Post. She attended Washington Country School and Franklin High School. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church. Gladys married Roy Acheson in Colton on October 17, 1941. They had two children, Susan and Mark. Gladys and Roy farmed in Buffalo Township until Roy’s death on October 2, 1985. She continued to live on the family farm until August of 2006.

Gladys was an active member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of the ELCW, a Sunday School teacher for twenty years, and helped establish the St. Jacob’s Kitchen Band. She was an accomplished pianist, loved music of all kinds, and sang for many years in the church choir. Gladys and Roy enjoyed all kinds of dancing, especially square dancing. She shared the family passion for baseball, following Roy and then Mark through their pitching careers.

Grateful for having shared her life are a daughter, Susan Main and her husband Tom, Chester; a son Mark Acheson and his wife Lisa, Chester; three granddaughters, Lana Main of Sioux Falls, Stacy Nelson and her husband Erik, of Sioux Falls; Amy Acheson of Chester; two grandsons, Paul Acheson and Cole Acheson both of Chester; one great grandson, Luke Nelson of Sioux Falls; a sister, Gleora Peterson, Montrose; a brother in law, Steve Acheson, Colton; and two sisters in law, Mildred Acheson, Chester; and Dorothy (Earl) Foster, Sun City, Arizona.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, a brother, Lorraine, and her parents.
