Dorothy Marie Thompson-Jobe

September 26, 1921 — July 9, 2007

Dorothy M. Thompson-Jobe, age 85, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Garretson, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 16, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Garretson. Visitations will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Sunday, July 16, 2007 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Memorials may be directed to the Children’s Home Society in Sioux Falls.

Dorothy Marie was born on September 26, 1921 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Nick and Clara (Lundquist) Schilder. She grew up in Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School in 1940. On August 31, 1940, Dorothy married Eugene Thompson in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived most of their lives in Garretson and were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Eugene Thompson died on April 9, 1984.

Dorothy married Eugene Jobe on October 7, 1995 in Sioux Falls. Following their marriage, the couple moved to the Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls. After Eugene Jobe’s death on April 15, 2006, Dorothy moved to the Sunnycrest Retirement Village, Sioux Falls.

Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed spending her time playing cards at the Center for Active Generations and at Sunnycrest. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and going to concerts and dances.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, David Lee (Beverly) Thompson, Menifee, CA and Richard Eugene (Victoria) Thompson, Silver Spring, Maryland; a daughter, Judy (Tom) Kruse, Cherokee, IA; six grandchildren: Lisa (Greg) Huber, Kara (Chad) Swier, Christian Thompson, James (Rita) Thompson, Scott (Judy) Kruse and Stacy Kruse; eight great-grandchildren: Meglyn and Ryan Huber; Schuyler, Spencer, and Hannah Swier; Jordan, Chase, and Riley Kruse; sisters-in-law: Betty Newberg, Sioux Falls, Ellen (Bob) Doese, Sioux Falls and Cleo Enoboe, Shavertown, Pennsylvania; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Eugene Thompson and Eugene Jobe; an infant son, Steven and a brother, Bob.
