Myrtle Berg, 97 of Baltic died Friday, July 06, 2007 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM Monday with the family present from 5-7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Myrtle was born January 10, 1910 in Logan Township to parents Gerhard “Guy” and Ida (Christiansen) Shjegstad. She was baptized and confirmed at South Highland Church. She graduated from Sherman High School and attended Augustana College and Normal School and earned a teaching certificate. She then taught in country school for six years.
Myrtle married Theodore Berg June 1, 1935. They lived and farmed west of Baltic. Theodore died June 26, 1966. She continued to live on the farm and raise her family.
She was a member of the West Nidaros Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for several years and was Sunday School Superintendent for four years and was a member of the ALCW and church circles. She also belonged to the Tri-Town Friendship Club. Her hobbies were sewing, crafts and painting.
Grateful for having shared her life are a son Charles Berg, Baltic; four daughters, Janice (Dean) Plantz, Ankeny, Iowa; LeAnn (Tom) Lee, Fargo, North Dakota; Charlene Fersdahl, Renner; Margaret (Jim) Swanson, Gaylord, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a son in law, Don Christopherson, Sioux Falls; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerhard, two daughters, Louise Berg and Beverly Christopherson; three brothers, Irwin, Reuben, and Clarence and a sister Gladys Nelson.
