Myrtle I. Kaitfors, 95 of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Sunday, July 08, 2007 at Sanford Health. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Minnehaha Cemetery, rural Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 7-8:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
Myrtle Irene was born November 6, 1911 on the family farm near Colton to parents Ingval and Clara (Anderson) Haugse. Her parents died during the flu epidemic in 1918 and Myrtle was raised by her maternal grandparents, Josephine and Carl Anderson. She grew up in that area and graduated from Lyons High School. She then attended Augustana College for two years where she earned her teaching certificate. She then taught country school in Harding County before teaching at Lyons for seven years.
Myrtle married C. W. “Wally” Kaitfors October 8, 1938 at Yankton, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Colton. Wally died August 19, 1981. In 1983 Myrtle moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter and family.
Myrtle was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life long member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the circles and women’s groups. She belonged to the birthday club, neighborhood card club, dearly loved reading and spending time with family and friends. She was a mentor to her three grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Renee Roth and her husband Mike, Sioux Falls; her grandchildren, Heather Knapton and her husband Christopher, Sartell, Minnesota; Michelle Roth, Chicago, Illinois; Derek Roth and his fiancée Crystal Ditto, Grand Forks, North Dakota; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, twin sons, and a sister, Florence Becker.
