William “Bill” Langner, 80, of Dell Rapids died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel, Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids, SD.
William Keith Langner, son of William and Elizabeth (Kracke) Langner, was born April 1, 1927 at Brookings, SD. He grew up north of Brookings and attended country school near there. After graduating from White High School, White, SD., he enlisted in the U.S.M.S. and was sent to Brooklyn, NY for training. Bill served at sea in the Atlantic and the Pacific. Receiving his discharge, he went to Omaha, NE to work in the telecommunications industry.
Bill met Patricia Fischer while working in Aberdeen, SD and they were married on April 1, 1950 in Aberdeen, SD. He worked for Western Electric and retired from AT&T in 1982. After retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique John Deere tractors and attending farm auctions. He loved to goose and duck hunt with his family and friends.Bill was a member of the Communication Workers of America and served as their South Dakota State Representative for 18 years. He also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Dell Rapids American Legion, and Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Pat, Dell Rapids, SD; his children, Micheal Langner and his wife Stephanie, Waterloo, IA; Annette and her husband Roger Weinacht, Dell Rapids, SD; Sandra and her husband Jeff Anderson, Flandreau, SD; Keith Langner and his wife Michelle, Papillion, NE; thirteen grandchildren, Andrea (Weinacht) Ruud; Michelle Langner; Carrie (Weinacht) Carder; Aaron Langner; Adam Langner; Tennille Langner; Greg Weinacht; Bethanie Langner; Jesse Anderson; Jeremy Anderson; Zachary Langner; Katherine Langner; and Kristin Langner; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Carson, Waconia, MN; sister-in-law, Beverly Langner, Madison, SD; and many other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Langner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are sent to the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel Fund.
